IMO Variable Speed Drives Gain BSI Accreditation With Elta Fans

The SD1, HD2 and HD2IP Variable Speed Drives (VSD) ranges from IMO are now BSI certified (BS EN 12101-3:2015 - Specification for powered smoke and heat control ventilators) for use with Smokevent Axial Fans from Elta Fans, in compliance with Regulation 305/2011/EU.

Established in 1972, Elta Fans commenced production of their first single-phase, long case axial fans and fans for commercial ovens, before extending their range to three-phase fans in 1974. By 1982, Elta Fans' production included the Centraflow range of in-line centrifugal fans for offshore applications, and with significant investment and development in 1984, Elta Fans acquired the ability to fully manufacture a highly competitive axial fan unit. In 1986 Elta Fans became the only UK manufacturer to achieve full certification of its range to the new BS 848 pt.1 (airflow) and pt.2 (noise) tests. Ongoing growth and steady investment in state-of-the-art machinery has seen Elta Fans expand to become one of the world's leading manufacturers of domestic and commercial fans.

Elta Fans has worked tirelessly to secure its BSI accreditation in a market where strict government regulations ensure high-performance equipment is compliant and guarantees the safety of all people and property. According to Bradley Crisp, Applied Technology Sales Engineer at Elta Fans, having gained compliance with BS EN12101-3:2015, fans are now capable of being powered through a VSD in times of emergency. Incorporating the VSD with the fan itself has meant system specifiers and designers are now offered a more streamlined approach. By testing the high-performance smoke fans in conjunction with various VSDs, this has ensured that the two can be used together without the need for bypassing or fitting filters to the VSD in fire mode. Using the VSDs alongside Elta Fans’ impellers has also increased the efficiency of the system, and thanks to the completion of the BS EN12101-3:2015 testing, allows for a fully compliant and highly efficient holistic solution.
